In a context marked by high levels of youth unemployment and underemployment, persistent inequalities in access to training and employment, as well as a high incidence of poverty in peri-urban areas of Mozambique, the DO – Destino Além project aims to strengthen the socio-economic inclusion of young people, women and persons with disabilities. By promoting access to quality technical and vocational training, strengthening links between training and employment stakeholders, and developing opportunities for professional integration and self-employment, the project responds to major development challenges facing the country. Its approach thus contributes to promoting more inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the provinces of Maputo, Inhambane and Sofala.

Our engagements

  • Strengthen the capacities of public and private institutions responsible for employment services and vocational training regarding the inclusion of women, vulnerable youth, and persons with disabilities.

  • Improve access for young women in vulnerable situations to qualified and proactive socio-professional information and guidance services at the community level.

  • Increase opportunities for vocational training, integration into the labour market, and self-employment for women and vulnerable youth.

The project in action

  • Implement practice-oriented vocational training programmes based on local labour market opportunities
  • Offer Human Development training modules to develop “soft skills” and “human skills” sought by employers
  • Support young people wishing to engage in self-employment
  • Enable women and vulnerable youth to access social services and career guidance services
  • Raise awareness and provide information in communities about training and employment opportunities
  • Organize job fairs
  • Strengthen the capacities of teams and partners in methodologies, monitoring and evaluation, and the inclusion of target groups
  • Bring together local stakeholders through roundtable discussions related to the theme of the employability of Mozambican youth

In 2025, I joined a training course in automotive electrical systems, a field that I am passionate about. Thanks to this opportunity, I gained skills, self-confidence and the certainty that I am capable of succeeding. After my training, I found an internship and started working in my profession. I faced difficulties because I am a woman, but I succeeded in overcoming all the obstacles. Today, clients use my services and I continue to learn every day. Being a woman did not prevent me from progressing or achieving my goals. Today, I am qualified in automotive electrical systems and I can look to the future with confidence.
