
Location:
State of Ceará rural areas and the municipalities of Granja and Parambu, respectively 150 and 500 km from the capital, Fortaleza (total of 81,000 residents)
Context and objectives:
This project is for families living in socio-economically vulnerable situations. Unfortunately, today Brazil holds the South American record for the sexual exploitation of children. By providing children with the necessary know-how and knowledge for healthy self-confidence, the project will guarantee better attainment of their basic preventive health, hygiene and emotional needs.
Actions:
To promote the self-confidence, health education, civic responsibility and environmental consciousness of 200 at-risk children in the municipalities of Granja and Parambu
- Constitution of children's groups and definition of group function rules
- Training of educators in interactive and inclusive educational techniques that stress the influence of emotions in the learning process
Three thematic workshops:
1- Getting to know myself and living in a group: my history, elaboration of the commitment contract, studying children's rights, etc.
2- Taking care of myself: physical and emotional self-care, prevention of illness, human values, prevention of violence and first aid concepts
3- Protecting the environment and rural life: manual, artistic and reading workshops, weekly sports activities, competition organization, organization of festive community events, workshops with parents with the objective of improving family skills, and intrafamilial relationships, home visits
By the end of the project, 90% of children will improve their level of care and prevention knowledge. 70% demonstrate initiative and express themselves with confidence to adults. 70%of parents are improving their family skills.
Direct beneficiaries: 200 children from Granja and Parabu living in at-risk socio-economic or emotional situations
Indirect beneficiaries: Children's families and the community in general, about 1,500 people
Partners:
- Local partners are GACC, Fortaleza partner NGO, the rural associations ACG in Granja and Adecomp in Parambu and municipal health, education and social action secretariats.
- Essor supports this project mainly by obtaining private funds, with greeting cards, for example.
